Racing through the Navajo Indian Reservation

Shu is looking strong and in good spirits as she races through the Navajo Reserve. The scenery is again incredible, but the temperature up at 40 degrees making it challenging conditions for Shu. We’ve had some tail winds though. She is at time station 10 and having a sleep in preparation for climbs to come. The next stage to time station 11 is pretty much all up hill.

We are now in an area of mandatory direct follow during both day and night until Utah.

The full RAAM profile shows Shu has plenty of hills coming up in this early stage. The focus for the team is getting her to our first cut off time station at Durango in Colorado. It’s 250 miles away and the cut off is Saturday 6am EDT.

We’ve had a serious warning about the dangers of the heat as a rider from another team suffered a fit. Erica, our paramedic, was able to help until the ambulance arrived. We are continuing to monitor Shu’s temperature carefully.
